In the state that's nicknamed "Land of 10,000 Lakes," the fish are plentiful, and celebrating a successful day on the lake with a fish fry in Rochester is a beloved tradition. There is something special about that golden-fried, fresh fish goodness.

Many Minnesotans remember Friday fish fry with parents or grandparents at the local VFW or American Legion. Though fish fries are commonly associated with the Lenten season, Rochester restaurants offer multiple fish fry options throughout the year.

American Legion Post #92

Since its charter in 1921, the Rochester American Legion has welcomed all branches of the military. Now they welcome everyone to try their popular fish and shrimp fry every Friday.

"There is no need to be a member to attend our down-to-earth, family-oriented fish fry," said Tony Loecher, office manager.

Your meal includes baked or fried fish or shrimp, potato, veggies, slaw and bread, all in a welcoming environment. Enjoy a mainstay of fish in Rochester and thank our servicemen and servicewomen while you are there.

Brothers Bar and Grill

Brothers Bar and Grill's Friday fish fry is an all-day event all year long. Choose two or three generous pieces of broiled or hand-battered haddock. Slaw and choice of regular, seasoned or waffle fries are included. "Go for the seasoned--you won't be disappointed," said one happy customer. A local favorite, Brothers Bar and Brill also serves up some of Rochester's best breakfasts.

Charlie's Eatery and Pub

Every Friday night is fish fry night at Charlie's Eatery and Pub. A Rochester favorite, Charlie's serves up all-you-care-to-eat batter-fried or broiled cod with a potato of choice and soup, salad or slaw. The fish is meaty, the batter light, and it's fried to perfection. If you can't make it on Friday, stop by the pub area for live music most Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Pappy's Place

Pappy's is a family-friendly restaurant with a Friday fish fry all year long. They offer traditional fried and broiled North Atlantic cod and also a popular parmesan-crusted option. Choose all-you-can-eat or a dinner portion along with choice of side. The Pappy's soup and salad bar is a great warmup course. Come early for the locally famous Pappy Hour.

Fried, broiled, or parmesan-crusted, make sure to check out one of Rochester's local fish fries. After all, it's the Minnesotan thing to do!
